The Junior Maths Challenge is run by the UK Mathematics Trust and is aimed at those students in years 7 and 8. It is a one hour multiple choice paper that tests students’ ability to solve mathematical problems and challenges. Marks are awarded for correct answers but are deducted for wrong answers so it does encourage students to think rather than to guess.
Students at King Edward VI High School achieved 1 gold, 6 silvers and 8 bronzes in this year’s UKMT Junior Maths Challenge. Over 250,000 students from across the UK sat the Junior Maths Challenge with roughly the top 6% receiving a gold certificate, the next 13% silver and then next 21% bronze. This year’s certificate winners are: Year 8 Isabella Terry (Gold and Best in School) Robbie Cartlidge (Silver) Jack Gulliver (Silver) Oscar Harte (Silver) Tamsin Pritchard (Silver) Lottie Lowndes (Bronze) Molly Dewsbury (Bronze) Harry Taylor (Bronze) Shannon Hendy (Bronze) Lauren Mills (Bronze) Georgia Stanyer (Bronze) Year 7 Ethan Edwards (Silver and Best in Year) Lucy Evans (Silver) Beth Bowyer (Bronze) Jessica Hedar (Bronze) A huge Congratulations to all of the students who took part.
